![]() BENEFITS OF THE ASA The Amateur Softball Association provides for team membership in the National Governing Body of the game of softball. The ASA led the charge for softball's entry as an Official Olympic Sport and has been designated by Congress as the National Governing Body for the Sport. I. STRONG GRASS ROOTS STRUCTURE A. ASA Commissioner B. Player Rep-Provides direct representation on the National Rules Committee through their elected Player Representative. Forty percent of the ASA voting council are player representatives. C. Junior Olympic Commissioner D. Umpire-In-Chief II. JUNIOR OLYMPIC PROGRAM A. VIP Program B. Coaching Schools C. College Opportunities (Over 80% of all NCAA Division I college softball players come from the ASA program.) III. ASA identification card V. UMPIRES The ASA registers over 52,000 umpires every year. They receive the top training by attending National Umpire Schools and Clinics headed by 15 members from the National Umpire staff. With their registration umpires also receive: A. Copy of the ASA Official Guide and Rule Book B. Copy of Balls & Strikes Softball Magazine C. ASA identification card VI. INSURANCE A. ASA insures the game through the availability of liability coverage for field owners, tournament sponsors, tournament organizers and registered teams. B. Provides registered teams the availability of purchasing accident insurance at low group rates. C. ASA provides coverage under Comprehensive General Liability, as an additional insured, in the amount of $2 million for league officers if 100% of their teams are registered with ASA, Coverage is automatic. D. ASA provides coverage under Comprehensive General Liability, as an additional insured, in the amountof $2 million for umpire associations if 100% of their umpires are registered with ASA, coverage is automatic.
